The short video is jarring to me--even as I think I have already seen and heard so much of what the Trump Admin. has cost us--as a people, as a country.

Don Winslow just released a devastating video about who we used to be: a country that argued fiercely, then came together. Don made this in spite of violent threats on his life. And DON'T MISS the ending.
Watch it.
Remember what trump cost us.

(71,816 posts)It praises a lot of Republicans in there. Lots of "under God", lots of "So help me God".
It's as if they can't help vilifying Trump and jerking off Republicans at the same time.
It's okay to say "The entire fucking Republican establishment sucks!"

(514 posts)We aren't those people. No one is going to get enough people on the same page again, to make it appear like everyone really is going the same direction, despite family differences, anytime soon.
That was a certain time in history, and now it's gone. The influences and world that formed those people, the one's who did what they did they way they did it, don't exist anymore. Something new is there.
I think it would take a generation to change organically, or a major politically agnostic event to get everyone's skin in the game without conditions and terms today, right now.
We also didn't tolerate a lot of dissent back then and the basic premise was essentially... everyone largely stays in their lane and most people don't get heard when we're debating.
These days, dissent is viewed as an engine of change, anyone can bull horn anything to everyone, and staying in your lane can sometimes be considered selfish or enabling...
So, we have some retrofitting of new influences and setting of goalposts to do before we figure it all out. That's assuming those who don't want to burn it down and start from scratch don't get first say.
