Entry in World Snow Sculpting Championship banned for anti-ICE messaging
Team USAs entry into the World Snow Sculpting Championship in Stillwater has been removed for its anti-ICE message the second such incident impacting a snow sculpture event in Minnesota this week.
The sculpture, A Call to Arms, was created by Team Thune, who represented the U.S. in the annual competition in downtown Stillwater. It depicts multiple sets of outstretched hands, with some making peace signs.
The sculpture also features hands signing the phrases ICE Out, Unity, and Resist in American Sign Language.
When the sculptures message came to light, event organizers made the decision to remove it from public view near the St. Croix River, where sculptures typically remain following the competition.
In a joint statement, World Snow Celebration and the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce said that sculptures need to "respect cultural and social values, avoiding offensive, controversial, political, or inappropriate themes."
