(38,496 posts)Lots of ice and snow here (and lots of inconsiderate idiots who do not take steps to ensure safe driving, walking, etc.).
Normal highs this time of year are around 45F. Its been 20 or more degrees below that for over a week. But there have been few power outages in the region.

(26,357 posts)Local news just told us where we can take the stunned lizards that will be falling from the trees and the manatee are a concern as temps will drop below freezing here starting in about 12 hours. A very unusually cold few days for us. I dont have the clothes for this kind of weather!

Not looking forward to to the next utility bill.

(29,213 posts)Much better than the 0 we had last week. High tomor of 20. Main problem is all the ice, on top of the snow we already had, and nothing is thawing. Our road is still a skating rink, and I've already slipped and busted my butt twice.
I have a little goat living in my bathroom at the moment. We found her paralyzed in the hind end, and her gums were already blue from the cold. She's now on meds, and staying warm.

(130,033 posts)If it's cold you just wear more clothes, but if it's hot there's nothing more you can do when you've taken all of them off.

(16,392 posts)nearly a week ago. There are hundreds of snapped utility poles, and power lines broken by fallen trees or the weight of ice. I lost power for 4 days but was fortunate to shelter with friends who were not affected. It is a real hardship, and there have been many cases of carbon monoxide poisoning in people desperately trying to stay warm enough to survive. How I would love to be in sunny Jamaica! (My sister used to live in Irishtown).
Stay warm and safe

(26,644 posts)I remember being in DC around Xmas for a special Crafts in America WH display of special Xmas trees filled with crafted ornaments of each specific materials; paper, fiber, wood ceramic, glass, metal being hosted by The Clintons, and it snowed!
Two inches around 1PM, and while I was on the Metro going to another museum suddenly it was like NYC rush hour !
The Federal workers were being sent home!
Understandably, like, not equipped for that kind of weather. I guess it was about "4 inches when I headed off back to NYC.
