Demond Wilson, who starred alongside Redd Foxx and answered to “Hey, Dummy” for six seasons on the wildly popular 1970s NBC sitcom Sanford and Son, has died. He was 79.

Wilson died Friday of complications from cancer at his home in Palm Springs, his son Demond Wilson Jr. told TMZ.

11. During the show's run, Mr. Wilson gave an insightful interview to TV Guide.

Mr. Wilson lamented that, in that era, talented people of color were experiencing obstacles in getting worthy projects produced in Hollywood.

He's looking for coins in front of the fountain at Ceasars. He sees Steve Lawrence and Edie Gourmet and tells them "I'm in antiques." They tell him he looks great in them.
