?
I am so furious now. There was a fictional Youtube video with Jamie Raskin and Kash Patel and it wasn't until I looked up the name of the channel - "The Patel Protocol" did I completely realize that they were bullshitting me. It is like the Borowitz report, which I hate also but the "facts" seem a little more reality like.
Then when I went over to the channel, I found out that to join you have to pay a few bucks a month.
What a despicable way to make a buck. This is the video.

Other topics such as pets and stuff -- it's "remarkable" how much "found footage" there is of unlikely events.
No dates, no links, no place names -- a lot of slick video.

(52,637 posts)I spend a certain amount of time each day calling them out and blocking the page they come from. What really bothers me is how many people believe they are real.
There is a large percentage of people who can't tell truth from fake, which will have serious consequences down the road. I think a lot of them are people who have watched reality TV for years and still believe it is "real".

(13,516 posts)Is still a small percentage. THEY just wont admit to being incorrect?
However that small percentage is still enough to cause a lot of damage. They probably won't admit they're wrong, but eventually they will crawl back under the rocks from whence they came (hopefully). They became brazen and open once they had a leader who spoke their hateful language.
They've always been with us, grumbling and complaining in the shadows, while they stockpiled their guns for their day of retribution. It appears that the election of a black man to the presidency was a huge motivator for many of them.

(23,456 posts)When I am in that mode, (of getting information etc) I don't want someone sticking their heads in trying to throw me off. Sorry if you work for them or are involved but that is just the way I feel.

(130,652 posts)to check the links first on many things. The title is usually the first clue, the link is the second. Very helpful in all cases, unless one chooses not to avail oneself of the provided information.

Anything which resembles that video in appearance or presentation should be avoided in the first place.

(15,206 posts)It wasn't at all intended as such. Certainly we have all made mistakes - been taken in ...
Maybe DU (and posts such as yours) can be of service in warding off .. ?
I will kind of stick with the the position - that if you are getting your 'news' and 'information' from YouTube (and youtube channels) these days ... I think you're swimming in some pretty murky waters.
Other than that - peace, friend. Didn't mean to whack you with that stick!

(243 posts)or whatever you want to call them. Yes, most of them are AI generated and flat out "fake news". A lot of channels are appearing in my feed that I have never heard of. Few to almost no followers.

(84,781 posts)There are many deepfakes of prominent political commentators.
There is also a lot of AI generated fiction. That's been the case for at least a couple years, but the deepfake problem on Youtube is bad right now.

They use her voice and face, the voice is convincing but the face is just manipulated by AI and I wish this kind of forgery would be made illegal and actionable.
Creepy....
