I am good and goddamned sick and tired of reading or hearing the following clause:

“Today, President Trump said…”

Since what he says or doesn’t say is either a bald-faced lie or fronto-temporal-influenced gabble -degook, what the actual fuck does it really matter at all whatsoever what he said?

It reminds me of the time just prior to the Gulf War when all the news outlets would “report”: “Today, Saddam Hussein said…”

Yes, I am well aware that reportage must needs include the quotation, but isn’t it “something” that our press does not add the proviso “let it be stated for the record that this President has told tens of thousands of lies and gross exaggerations, so it might be prudent to take today’s statement with the proverbial grain of salt until it can be verified.” Or better, “ Our staff has thoroughly researched the validity of this statement and found it to be, as many of his pronouncements are, false in many (all) respects.”

But no. Even though this sociopathic ephebophile has never knowingly told the truth in his lifetime, it is reported as a fact upon initial presentation, and since we have a torrent/firehose of lies, no amount of evidence to the contrary can possibly make up for the initial statement/lie/untruth/prevarication/bullshit. I had a member of my former family of acquisition who considered himself very bright and informed who bought into this nonsense and was exasperated by sane individuals’ contradictions. Very stupid and frustrating. And moronic. And worthy of gnashing of teeth.

But my favorite thing on the news shows is when they’re interviewing a Democrat and ask him or her “Well, the President said such and such.” and the Democrat responds to the lie with the Truth, the interviewer then says dismissively , “Well, we are going to have to leave it there.” And so without discussion, the topic and victory go to the President/Liar. Now when a Republican is interviewed and asked about a Democrat, he or she is given full rein to blather on and on and ascribe not only the “evil motive” to this Democrat, but every ill in the USAand around the world is the fault of the Dem and of course, the Party at-large. Fuck these assholes.

Rant complete.

and yes, the "mainstream press" is ridiculously slanted - Dems, like women and POC, have always had to be twice as good to be considered half as good - but now repukes have become FASCIST and they're STILL being treated deferentially

was when the Network TV's all gave him one entire hour in Prime time, to give us updates on Covid, every single night.
Do you remember that?
He would spend the first five minutes telling us he was right, and that Covid wasn't that big a deal, and then spend the rest of the hour talking about how great he was, or how shitty the dems were. And it seems that went on for months!
And of course since all the mainstream media, including the Network TV channels were Republican Owned/Operated they never cut him off...........

And that attention will be in the context of Trump. I think turned backs then a walkout would be a much more public slap in his face, but getting every Democrat on board to do that could be difficult.

Probably more doable for D leadership in both houses to call for a boycott, but leave it up to each member to decide whether or not to attend. As it becomes increasingly apparent the majority will NOT attend, those who do will stick out and come under intense criticism from their voting base -- incentive to join the boycott.

AFAIK, a SotU boycott has never happened before. Mainstream media talking heads would probably clutch their pearls and decry such a brazen breach of tradition and decorum. To that I say F&@# THEM! They made this nightmare possible with bothsideserism and normalizing the greatest threat to our Constitutional democracy since the Civil War.

The ABSOLUTE WORST THING our elected Democrats could do is sit there as The Fascist Grifter spews lies and insults while Republicans applaud and give him standing ovations.

If this ruins the SotU presentation going forward, so be it. That spectacle has been a farce of fake decorum and partisan political engineering far too long. Let's have some old fashioned honesty, and fight Truth Decay by refusing to give any credibility to the most egregious LIAR and deplorable POtuS ever to dishoner the once great United States.

Even though there are still fact-checkers and even though the media years back established that Trump has told tens of thousands of lies since he came down that escalator, U.S. media outlets still tend to amplify Trump's words before fact-checking them. They can spend half an article on what Trump claims before getting to crucial details about the legality or facts of anything he is holding forth about. A decade and thousands of deaths into this awful business, many in the media still haven't learned.

I have the same complaint. They refer to what he says and does as if it is "business as usual".

I don't even think they should elevate him by calling him President. There is nothing legitimate about him. He is not functioning a president. He is functioning as an authoritarian. This is not an administration, it is a take over.

This is how the US news media bows and kisses his ring.
They've been doing it for TEN *F*-ING YEARS!

We are all on the same page - it's the news media that are making us crazy.
They are cowards and Chump takes advantage of every demonstration of cowardice.

But if they stand up to him ... he backs off because knows he can't defend his own lies.

During the Liar-in-Chief's first term, that's what I wanted Democrats to say EVERY TIME a reporter asked them to respond to something Trump said.

Let's remember that Donald Trump is a pathological liar with zero credibility.

Say this verbatim, EVERY TIME:
Let's remember that Donald Trump is a pathological liar with zero credibility.

Keep saying this, until it becomes a news story unto itself:
Let's remember that Donald Trump is a pathological liar with zero credibility.

Keep saying it so the public, and especially reporters in print and television can't ignore it and start fact checking EVERYTHING HE SAYS, which would verify the fact that:
Donald Trump is a pathological liar with zero credibility.
