Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) hit back on Saturday amid a mounting effort from a super PAC to replace him in the upcoming midterm elections, saying he is being unfairly targeted for pushing for the release of the Epstein files.
It was not a hoax, I cannot be bullied, I am not done, and this is why those in power are doing everything in their power to defeat me, Massie wrote on the social platform X on Saturday.
Super PAC MAGA KY raised $2 million from June 19-30 last year, the group disclosed in a new Federal Election Committee filing. The funds top donor is American hedge fund owner Paul Singer, who contributed $1 million. John Paulson donated $250,000 to the group.
Massie said these two donors are targeting him because of his involvement in a bipartisan group of legislators pushing for the release of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Republican representative alleged that Paulson appeared in Epsteins black book, a contact log kept by the disgraced financier.

(3,944 posts)The pugilistic 80-year-old founder of Florida hedge fund Elliott Management has been described as a financial terrorist for his practice of buying sizeable stakes in public companies and then pressuring them to alter their strategies, sell assets or fire top leaders. Hes also been called a vulture capitalist because hes made an art of scooping up defaulted debt from struggling countries and then demanding payment in full.
...
As the United States is learning, however, control-seeking billionaires rarely serve the public interest. The Manhattan Institute a hard-right lobbying group that attacks regulation, the green energy transition, public education, social services and DEI held an awards dinner for Singer in May, noting that all its recent success in these areas would not be possible without Paul Singer. (Recent headline on the institutes website: ESG Is Coming for Your Candy Bars.)
As a libertarian, Singer has long supported the Koch familys notorious promotion of tax cuts and fossil fuels. He donates generously to Republican causes, including US$63 million in the 2024 election, and $5 million to Trumps campaign specifically.
Besides control, note Singers use of the word influence. In 2008, he flew with Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to a US$1,000-a-day fishing lodge in Alaska, according to reporting by ProPublica. In the following years, Alito ruled on about 10 cases that Elliott Management brought to the Supreme Court as part of its high-stakes collection campaigns. Alito never disclosed Singers gift, nor did he recuse himself even in a dispute with Argentina that netted Elliott US$2.4 billion.

(24,216 posts)They have teams of people going through these redacting anything about Trump, so the stuff they left in about Trump is the stuff they think they can defend.
I've long held a theory that Trump will not hire anyone who isn't compromised in some way, he needs leverage over anyone he works with. That is why so many names in the administration are in the Epstein files, Trump doesn't trust you unless he has something to use against you. And Trump's DOJ has these files, they've probably given him a lot of it for his own personal game of leverage.
I think what was going on at Epstein's is not a one time deal, there are other Epsteins out there still operating. Now you've got some of these charges that are pure pedophilia, like Trump and his rape of children 13 and younger, but I'd bet there's a more prevalent category of 15 or 16 year old girls they tried to pass off to the rich and powerful as being 18 or 19. This is just part of "doing business" for these evil billionaires. You throw parties, you ply business men with alcohol, next thing you know there are girls at the party who look under 18, but you're told they are 18. And it all gets filmed. That's the parts we aren't seeing yet, Trump on film with naked girls, that 100% exists.
