TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - State Sen. Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston) outlined his priorities for the Republican nomination for attorney general, emphasizing support for President Trumps border security agenda and strict enforcement of conservative policies.
Middleton said his top priority would be backing Trumps deportation efforts by using Texass ban on sanctuary cities to remove local officials who interfere with federal immigration enforcement. We have to deport all illegal immigrants. Not some. All, Middleton said.
He pledged to sue local officials for civil and criminal penalties and removal from office if they obstruct federal immigration operations. Anyone that tries to get in the way of President Trumps border security agenda in Texas, we have a very powerful tool, he said.
Middleton also discussed his support for displaying the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms, saying there is no such thing as separation of church and state.
