TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - State Sen. Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston) outlined his priorities for the Republican nomination for attorney general, emphasizing support for President Trump’s border security agenda and strict enforcement of conservative policies.

Middleton said his top priority would be backing Trump’s deportation efforts by using Texas’s ban on sanctuary cities to remove local officials who interfere with federal immigration enforcement. “We have to deport all illegal immigrants. Not some. All,” Middleton said.

He pledged to sue local officials for civil and criminal penalties and removal from office if they obstruct federal immigration operations. “Anyone that tries to get in the way of President Trump’s border security agenda in Texas, we have a very powerful tool,” he said.

Middleton also discussed his support for displaying the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms, saying “there is no such thing as separation of church and state.”
