Pour, or instead squeeze, one out for a childhood staple: Minute Maids frozen juices are soon disappearing from shelves after an 80-year run.
Coca-Cola, which owns Minute Maid, said in a statement Thursday that its exiting the frozen can category. That will result in its lineup of juice concentrates being discontinued in the coming months.
The changes are in response to shifting consumer preferences, a company spokesperson told CNN, noting that its focusing on products that better match what our consumers want.
Minute Maid sells frozen juices in a variety of flavors, including orange, lemonade, pink lemonade, raspberry lemonade and limeade. The products will last on shelves until supplies run out.

(11,420 posts)Making concentrate and shipping it means having the facilities to do so as well as refrigerated trucks for shipping. Sending water around the country is cheaper for the manufacturer (and do they pass the savings on to the customer? Hah!). I'm lucky enough to live in an area where many stores still have fresh squeezed orange juice. It's not cheap, and the type of oranges varies throughout the year, but it's my small luxury.

(18,807 posts)Tang is generally not considered healthy because it's loaded with sugar and artificial ingredients, lacking the nutrients of real fruit juice, and can lead to health issues like weight gain, dental problems, and blood sugar spikes, though it does provide Vitamin C and can help with hydration.

Frozen juice was a staple in my parent's freezer along with bread from the day old bakery store, fish my dad caught, and parts of dead farm animals.

(38,743 posts)It was probably too hard to follow the directions for most people. Or they don't have a pitcher to mix it up in.
Just buy juice in a giant plastic jug and toss it in the trash...

(778 posts)I think many people are doing that now, instead of buying sugar-laden drinks like Minute Maid.
The people who are willing to consume that much sugar usually just buy soda pop.
