I'm honestly shocked. When I saw they'd offered a $50k reward I just (mistakenly?) assumed they were.

Yeah, this is their forte and they should be involved in this.

Was proffering sarcasm...

Suggesting that the FBI is experienced in kidnapping people, as well as solving kidnappings...

Of course I've been wrong before...

In a post on Truth Social late Wednesday, Trump said: "I spoke with Savannah Guthrie, and let her know that I am directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY."

"We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely," the president added. "The prayers of our Nation are with her and her family. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT NANCY!"

The FBI is now involved in the investigation, which also includes about 100 detectives from the sheriff’s office, and Trump said Tuesday he would commit to sending more federal agents to assist.

and not others? I realize that Susannah Guthrie is “famous” but how many people are abducted or go missing and they don’t date the attention that her mother is getting.

Trump is so infantile and will try to insert himself so he can feel important and fill the never filled well that is his ego.

to what media is saying, more. In this and many events, the spokespeople seem to be affected by being in the media, in different degrees - deer-in-headlights or thrilled by the spotlight or nervous or occasionally thoroughly in charge.

As for this Meta sheriff, seems like he shouldn't be so personal in his details, both about him and his staff and about this victim and family.

I know the locale is not L.A., but on a brief visit I saw how law enforcement interacted with celebrity types (not big names) with extreme solicitousness and deference, like supplicants to the important people.

So this one is shy, engratiating, tentative. The Meta part is what I'm talking about as a mildly off-putting or disconcerting thing, as opposed to a just-the-facts Dragnet approach - just my personal reaction, Meta-me?

And I did specify comparing how all different spokespeople act, differently.

*** UPDATE, ON EDIT: Two days after this post, there were news articles starting last night (Saturday) that this Sheriff was in the first row at a basketball game (U. of AZ?). This while more contacts from the perpetrator(s) and more videos from the family were active in the news. My only point from the start was that this fellow - understandably, as has been said in news outlets - has been unfamiliar with high profile crimes and "how media works" in this jurisdiction and might pass the spokesperson role to somebody else. For me as a mere uncredentialed observer, it seemed from the start that he was talking too much about random whatever and seemed like he was watching t.v. blather to react to. He started out by talking about how he and his crew might be off kilter talking because of lack of sleep, the loss supposedly showing how hard they were working. It's just unseemly for him to be at a basketball game. It would be easy for him just to stay out of sight and let somebody else take turns with the talking to the media, while he could sleep or watch t.v.
