Dow surges more than 1,000 points to hit 50,000 for the first time

Irrational exuberance, or have the fundamentals of economics changed? It feels like the stock market has become completely untethered from the real economy.

There is another hour to go. Could be some profit taking.

7. The Dow always has broken records. Under every president.

News about the Dow breaking records is useless Tell me how many presidents presided over a declining Dow. And how many presidents presided under a record breaking dow

A new record is something that typically happens monthly. Always. Often weekly.

I wanted a number of one category versus the other. President during whose tenure the Dow broke the record at least once, vs president who presided over no record breaking. The last six presidents have broken records and that’s more than six terms because some of those presidents such as Obama and Reagan were elected more than once.

..and Republicans insisted that "the stock market is not the economy" -- and that "the stock market does not reflect Americans' lived experience."

Yes, my 401k is doing well. But we are not OK.

It’s a very unremarkable stat. Newspapers know it, but they know people get thrills when they hear record “.
