I’ve even heard liberal friends refer to Hispanic workers as “Mexicans.” I was so shocked by the specificity I asked whether they knew for a fact those folks were literally from Mexico. (In our area, we have a large Hispanic population from Mexico, Central and South America, and Spain.) The point wasn’t accuracy. The point was Mexican is not synonymous with Hispanic.
