The athletes said nothing overtly antagonizing. This is like the shit that happened with the Dixie Chicks. Natalie Maines' comment about Bush was insanely benign, a nothingburger.

This has nothing to do with "levels" of speech, rather, like Maines the Olympic athletes have "shown themselves" to not be in full fealty for Der Trumpenfurher. Thus they are enemies of the state.
