JD Vance ridiculed for 40-car motorcade taking him down tiny Italian street

Vice President JD Vance is being ridiculed on social media for requiring a 100-car motorcade through narrow streets in Milan to meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The planes carrying Vance and the U.S. delegation were also said to be holding staff, security, food, and vehicles, while the huge motorcade featured a flurry of Chevy Suburbans that could barely fit on the tiny streets of Milan.

“Some Scandinavian PMs bike to work or take the subway, the Romanian and Moldovan presidents just go by regular commercial flights. More or less the same goes for most European heads of state. JD Vance had 14 planes fly in this motorcade and his security detail to Italy,” one account on X said, with a video of the ridiculous-looking group of cars travelling through Milan.

“JD Vance went to meet Meloni in a 40-car motorcade full of Suburbans through the tiny streets of Milan,” added another. One user also said, “His 100-vehicle motorcade required 14 planes to transport. Milanese streets are tiny & athletes can’t reach venues due to VANCE-generated traffic jams.”

“Vance has been a vocal critic of 'entrenched elites' and government waste, yet his own security footprint is one of the largest in history,” added another. This comes after the vice president received a decidedly negative welcome from Italians at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics. On Thursday, he and his wife, Usha, were booed loudly when they were shown on the big screen, and the footage went viral on social media.

Just wait until Satan calls his boss home and he gets to sit in the Big Chair. Will he be even more addicted to imperial-style ceremonies and accoutrements than the Orange One?

I figger they better get it while they can. For those with only a half-of-a-wit, they have to know that dues will be paid.

But Milanese streets are not "tiny." Milano is a major urban center. Its streets are the same as those in New York, Philadelphia, or Washington DC.

The picture at the link shows Vance's motorcade on a wide street with a tram track down the middle of it.

I have been to some of those mountain villages in Northern Italy, and they're quaint and charming. But they aren't made for motorcade traffic, and Vance is just an asshole for doing this. He should have stayed home and watched it on TV.

It specifically describes Vance's meeting with Meloni in Milano.

for requiring a 100-car motorcade through narrow streets in Milan .... "D Vance went to meet Meloni in a 40-car motorcade full of Suburbans through the tiny streets of Milan

I'm actually replying to the text of the article in the OP.

That said, you're right that pretty much any of the other venue areas would make Vance's idiotic motorcade even more clownish than it already is in Milano. But the streets in Milano are not any narrower than any other major world city.

I was lucky enough to go there in August 2023. I had the best sandwich of my life in Milan and of course best pizza, pasta, and gelato in all the places we visited.

Every article seems to throw out both numbers, often in the same paragraph. Which is true?

Vice President JD Vance is being ridiculed on social media for requiring a 100-car motorcade through narrow streets in Milan to meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

He's got a 40 vehicle motorcade for city driving and a 40 vehicle motorcade specifically for mountain roads.
There's 20 vehicles for support vehicles including 3 each catering trucks for both city and mountains (one for him, one vegetarian for her, and the canteen truck for drivers, Secret Service, and staff), two types of RVs for "resting", two Comms behicles a medical supply truck, two types of ambulances, four Sysco vans full of food supplies...and Seal Team 6.
Ridiculous.
