I know the exact time I first saw her: 9:35pm, August 4th, 1979
She came into the establishment that I was working at on that Saturday night. No, it wasnt love at first sight. But she was hard to miss.
She came into my place of work several times in the upcoming weeks. We struck up a conversation. Our first date was October 31. From that day on we were inseparable.
We took it slow. Dating is trying someone on to see if they fit. She had never been in love before and I was still struggling to find someone to hold a candle to a lost love. Turns out that she was/is a sun that outshone any candle. She wasnt my first love. She is the love that made all other loves irrelevant.
As I said, we took it slow. We wanted to make sure. It wasnt until the weekend after Valentines Day 1980 that we knew. She flew off for the weekend to be with her sister 1000 miles away. We had been inseparable for months and now without her I realized that I never wanted to be without her again. Turns out, 1000 miles away she had the same thoughts about me.
This upcoming weekend makes 46 years of being in love. And she is still my best friend.
