But it’s a little sad, too. How in the hell could so many Americans choose a weird malignant narcissist over nice, normal people like Tim Walz and Kamala Harris?

They're using Ring cameras to surveil people and trying to sell it as a way to track down lost pets.

8. I feel like this is somewhat related to this Nancy Guthrie case

Unless some info came in that I missed, the last I heard was that the media was lamenting the fact that the cops wouldn't be able to get any camera data because she no longer had a subscription to the cameras on her house.

But then, lo and behold, it turns out that there is data after all, which is rather coyly being described as "residual data" that they just happened to "find" on a backup server somewhere.

Now, if that data helps get Nancy Guthrie back, that's great. But that doesn't change the fact that once you install a company's cameras on your house -- hardware that you pay separately for -- then if you stop paying their subscription, you no longer have access to the data from those cameras.

But apparently the camera company does. They keep recording, and storing, the data from your cameras -- the ones you paid for, that are attached to your house -- even though you don't have access to that data.

Seems pretty sketchy to me.

Anyone with a Ring camera might want to look at the terms of the subscription with a magnifying glass.

13. Are we totally sure it's just the Ring cameras working with Flock

Real question that I don't have an answer to. Wondering about other similar camera services? Saw a post that was banned /is still banned to the best of my knowledge, about how to confuse the license plate readers of Flock and after the post a certain community/ state (can't remember which) made it illegal to modify plate even if the actually number was not unreadable by human eyes. I know this is an old post but the info is old too.

Also had a police dept. neighbor who was very persistent years back about getting the whole neighborhood on NextDoor because it would make it easier for the police to keep us safe. I didn't like their lack of privacy options so never joined.
