A local Republican Party chairman in Utah has been arrested for allegedly “waterboarding” his own daughter after getting angry at her for not cleaning her bedroom, police say, according to local reports.

Wasatch County GOP chairman David Nephi Johnson was arrested and charged with first-degree aggravated child abuse on Tuesday, according to a police press release and local KSL, KPCW, and ABC 4 Utah.

Johnson, the 54-year-old GOP chairman of Wasatch County, was booked at the Wasatch County Jail, according to the outlets, citing local police.

The Heber City Police Department said in a statement Tuesday that it arrested Johnson “after receiving information alleging that a father had subjected his 16-year-old daughter to waterboarding as a form of punishment.”

“During the course of the investigation, detectives also learned that the juvenile had been backhanded on the torso, resulting in visible bruising,” police added.

Water-boarding as I understand it, was typically done by placing a towel over the victim's face, and pouring water over it which would simulate the sensation of drowning--- pushing someone's head under water isn't 'water-boarding', that's out and out drowning...
