Hi all, I've been checking in on DU daily but not spending a great deal of time here while I recuperate. My cardiology follow up appointment went well with them saying if I continue as i am, I should be back to no restrictions in another 3 months after I finish rehab.
It's been tough being a patient patient, but I'm trying my best to follow instructions about dietary, exercise, stress, etc changes. My spouse and cats are happy to have me around more, though it's been a huge change going from caregiver to care taker.
All that said, thank you for continuing the good fight, best wishes and take care.
And fuck ICE and minions.

(36,082 posts)right now the news is pretty stressful, so staying away from it makes a lot of sense. It will all be here when you are cleared for regular activity!

(14,135 posts)in November of 2024. The difference is (probably, anyway) that I didn't go to cardiac rehab, because by the time they called me it was 6 months later and I had already pretty much rehabbed myself with daily walks and was back to working at the shelter. I did go and check out the place, but the minute I walked in I immediately got severely claustrophobic; too much equipment packed into too small a place, and too noisy. So I politely said no thanks and walked out and continued my life. Per my last echocardiogram I'm doing fine. Just don't treat yourself as a cardiac cripple and you'll be okay! Best wishes from VA.

(38,858 posts)I'm still going to the gym. Still watching what I eat. Still taking all the drugs they prescribed.
I'm feeling good, it's good to be here.
Hang in there.

(178,723 posts)You've been through a lot in the last few months, but taking it easy and keeping up with the cardiac rehab should bring you back to normal.
Take care of yourself.

(222 posts)This coming August will mark three years since I had triple bypass surgery. I discovered something since then. First, open heart surgery is a stunning traumatic experience on one's body. It takes a long time to recover. And I didn't know how pervasive the trauma was until I was able to look back and follow my body's history within that recovery. There's the medication and adjusting to the side effects. I don't really know how much the medication itself contributed to the "other-worldliness" of my everyday life, but I surely had to live with it every day until I didn't. The most remarkable part of the recovery is a return of my mental acuity, and in retrospect, how I could only evaluate the improvement after living through the deficits. In the midst of cloudy thinking, one's tendency is to strive for clarity and perceptual alertness that nearly gives denial a good name. Only afterward could I recall a kind of drifting in a mist of awareness. Even now, I notice improvements in short term memory from day to day. If I may, I'll advise that you stay physically and mentally active, even on days when you just don't want to move. It's okay to be tired, and it's okay to push a little bit beyond the fatigue. Best of luck. We've both been lucky to be still living and breathing. And one more thing:
Epstein.

(941 posts)I had a clot form inside an already placed stent so they put another stent into that one.
I'm only telling you this because 12 years later, I'm feeling great. I'm sure that you will as well. 😀

(3,597 posts)I feel normal now although half of my heart is dead (only physically
). Even though I cant push myself physically like I used to I still manage to walk a mile a day. Wishing you the best. Listen to your body and your professionals. I now eat a bowl of oats every morning and that simple change in my diet has improved all my cholesterol levels by 25% alone. Good luck!!

Give yourself all the time you think you need, and then more because you're a terrible judge.
Cardiac rehab really improves outcomes.
Stress kills.

Also, 10 years ago, felt crappy, went to cath lab, three stents all perfectly clear, but five other blockages, so surgery happened, but on my calendar rather than as a emergency.
Feel better! DM me for anything.

(13,127 posts)I am home recovering from hip operation from fractured hip. I feel your pain.
I normally do a lot for my husband that is older than me and I lead a very active life gym, yoga, walking dog miles a day and now I can't drive for a few months. I am so independent being needy not my thing. That said this has been good for me to learn to live day by day and slow down.
Hope you heal soon wising you the best.
