Derek Dooley didn't vote for years. Now he wants Georgia voters to send him to Washington

Lots of candidates pitch themselves as political outsiders. Derek Dooley goes a step further. Not only is the former football coach running for the first time, he says he did not vote for nearly two decades.

He did not vote when Republican Donald Trump was first elected president in 2016. Nor did he vote in 2020, when Trump lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

But Dooley does not worry about that as he seeks the Republican nomination to face off against Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in Georgia. He insists that Washington needs someone with a fresh outlook, someone who is not focused on “their own political career or their political ambitions.”

Besides, lots of people do not vote, and Dooley told The Associated Press that he wants to inspire more people to do so.

“If you’re not vigilant in exercising that right, things can go pretty sideways in our country,” he said.

He was a lousy football coach, so now he wants to be a congresscritter? No thank you very much!

The guy who cratered the once proud Tennessee football program? That 41 to 18 spanking Vanderbilt gave him in his next to last game at UT still gives me a warm fuzzy.

And they went through a string of real bad ones.
He sucked most.
Do not elect that loser. Isn't Football McDumbass in Bama enough to prove no more coaches? How about rape protector Gymmy Jordan. Damn the Stupid. A damn NASCAR driver that never won will fly through the process and be President with this MAGA GQP and endless cash flow.
Dale Earnhardt would win easily. While dead.

were all due to some Bama plants as AD---Mike Hamilton (aka Hammy) and Dave Hart (aka Heartless Dave). I don't know who was responsible for those idiots, but everything went sideways at Tennessee during their tenure! Remember how Heartless Dave tried to eliminate the Lady Vol brand? I think Pat Summitt may have arisen out of her grave and smitten him finally for that one! In any case, no matter what you may think of Philip Fulmer, he did some very right things for UT when he was named AD.

My daughter is my personal Mini Kimmes. And she lives and breaths football. She went to UT and started the year they cut Fulmer. She went through lots of them. Kiffen running in the night as students burned mattresses and tossed them out windows. The Grest White hope of Dooly’s son. It’s Ben tough on her, she still bleeds Orange and recently moved back there for good.
Pat was sure a hero.
But she has a way to go to feel my pain of coaching and ownership. I’ve been a Cowboy fan for 50+ years.
🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡
Go Vols….Next year?
All this heartbreak and now Trump!

He's done good things for UT. But don't get me started on Kim Caldwell. I'm STILL mad at Danny White for firing Kellie Harper and I exoect I will be until the day I die, and no matter what she does at UT, I will never think that Kimmie was a suitable hire. One season of D-I coaching does NOT prepare you for coaching the Lady Vols and I am waiting for her to crash out of the NCAAs. They sure showed themselves at SC (not).
Feel free to disagree, but I cannot stand her.

I have a picture of my daughter being hugged by Pat after a game.
The way players now get paid, switch teams year by year and some play 7 years, it takes more than a coach to build and keep a team. The AD and alumni cash are in control of it all.
I like Josh as well. It would be great to get Peyton as OC, for recruiting power. Or make him the AD.
Great insight from your post, thank you, you know the details of what’s going on.
My daughter would love you.
