Another workaround if you have a couple of minutes - get archive.ph to archive it for you
I tried it just now, for an image many DUers were saying "great!" about (spoiler - meh, not so much).
It took a surprisingly long time to archive - I though it would just archive the image itself, as shown on DU, but it decided to take the entire content around it as seen when you visit the imgur website - probably 100 other bits and pieces. But it did work, after a couple of minutes.
