'Whoa – this is new': Trump's visible rash prompts new health concerns

President Donald Trump appeared in public Monday morning with a significant rash on his neck.

The 79-year-old president awarded the Medal of Honor at the White House to Vietnam veteran Terry P. Richardson, who is credited with saving the lives of 85 soldiers during a 1968 battle, and journalist Aaron Rupar noted that photos showed a heavy rash on the right side of Trump's neck at the event.

"Whoa -- this is new," Rupar posted, showing a photo credited to Getty photographer Saul Loeb. "Trump has a significant rash-like injury on his neck today in addition to his disfigured hand."

Trump has frequently been seen in public, including the medal award event, with makeup covering the back of his right hand to cover what appears to be injuries from IV injections, and the photo of his rash raised new concerns about his health.

......"My dad was doubling, possibly tripling up, his blood thinners at one point," posted Bluesky user Nicole. "Parts of his skin would just tear and bleed because of this. If his collar is rubbing up against his neck, the friction could cause this. Wasn't there something about him taking way too much aspirin?"

43. He may be being treated for a pre-cancerous skin condition
Mon Mar 2, 2026, 05:42 PM
Mar 2

Pre-cancerous actinic keratoses and superficial basal cell carcinomas can be treated with a shortish course of topical creams such as Fluorouracil, usually over 2-4 weeks.

A pal of mine has had thin hair for many years and spent a lot of time outdoors with no hat on, and developed pre-cancerous lesions on his scalp a couple of years ago.

When I saw him after we hadn't met for a while and he'd started the treatment, he looked quite a mess - it temporarily leads to the sort of angry-looking crusty skin patches shown in photos of Trump I've seen. My pal's skin healed just fine. If this is what's going on, Trump's patch seems much more widespread than my pal's were.

The neck area would see a lot of sun over the years, especially when golfing, and the sorts of headgear he's fond of wouldn't have protected that area. I doubt he's been in the habit of using sunscreen (barring the makeup he plasters on in his later years) judging by the state of the rest of his skin.

Look up the medication imiquimod. Also do an image search of basil cell carcinoma. Both show images that show very similar rashes. Look at Figure 2. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s12886-015-0024-0

much as that may be a disappointment to many of us.

Basal cell carcinoma does have more chances of metastasizing and at best causing local tissue destruction if left to fester for too long.

The patch we can see in the photos seems quite large, so who knows what the stage and prognosis is?

A decent president might have gone public about this and used it as a public education campaign - wear high-factor sunscreen, cover up and get any suspicious persistent rashes and lesions checked out, etc. But Trump's a superman ...

Maybe his shirt it just too tight. I don't ever recall seeing a man's swollen neck (fat?) hanging over their shirt collars. But there is certainly a visible rash, I hope it hurts, if it is shingles, my very mild case of shingles was very painful.

75. Doctors Sound Alarm on White House 'Secrecy' Over Trump's Neck Rash
Mon Mar 2, 2026, 08:04 PM
Mar 2

Medical experts aren’t buying the White House’s explanation for the president’s bright-red rash.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/doctors-sound-alarm-on-white-house-secrecy-over-trumps-neck-rash

Doctors are voicing skepticism over the White House’s handling of Donald Trump’s troubling new skin condition.....

But some in the medical field remain unconvinced. Dr. Vin Gupta, a medical analyst for MS NOW and former Chief Medical Officer at Amazon, theorized the rash could in fact be “pre-cancerous.”

The White House medical team didn’t know [Trump] got a CT scan. They claimed it was a MRI for weeks,” Gupta wrote, referencing an apparent “MRI” that Trump let slip he had in October 2025—an examination the White House originally kept under wraps.

Now instead of acknowledging he might have a pre-cancerous skin condition, they dance around the issue,” Gupta continued. “Trying to fool the public just makes it worse.”

Gupta wasn’t the only physician with something to say about Trump’s irritated, bright-red skin. Dr. Jonathan Reiner, cardiologist to the late former Vice President Dick Cheney, also raised concerns about the White House’s statement—including a theory that it might not have been written by the physician himself.

“The hint that this statement might not have actually been written by Dr Barbabella is that in it, he says that the medication was ‘prescribed by the White House Doctor’. He’s the WH Doctor,” Reiner wrote on X.

In a separate post, Reiner, who is a medical analyst on CNN, wrote: “Preventative skin treatments (such as topical 5 flurouracil) are commonly used to prevent overt skin cancer in people with precancerous skin lesions. We don’t know what specific treatment the president is receiving, but why all the secrecy for something that is potentially easy to treat and very common in older people?”
