I don't think there will be an overthrow of the oligarchy, though.

$119 a few minutes ago. As much gas as many people use it will already be unaffordable for some.

The world is not as it was. There is no AXIS of evil.
There is a WORLD of evil, the only freedom fighter at this point is Zelenskyy.
The rest are complacent, as are American citizens (outside of DU)

Trump will drop the big one.
He is jealous of every Democratic president, INCLUDING Harry Truman.

That will change the world in a "flash"

Usonian, the "Mad Prophet of the Internet" predicted this in May of 2025
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100220295160

In that, perhaps I gave Putin too much credit.

THE TRUMP-EPSTEIN SEX, BLACKMAIL and MONEY-LAUNDERING EMPIRE
is/was the biggest crime in recorded history.

Trump will try to take the entire planet down with him as the sordid facts come to light.

We the people have borne witness to his crimes. This perhaps never happened in Germany, or Hitler didn't have Trump's long track record a the time he took over.

I kind of expect a massive attack on the U.S. internet and other infrastructure and drone attacks on data centers.
Trump savaged the nation's cyber defenses (as noted at the link above) and defense, such as it is, is entirely involved in the roundup and detention of residents of the U.S. (Oh, shades of Franklin what's his name).

The ultimate projection, as with Hitler, is to turn to the use of international brute force when the internal situation (and history of abominable crimes) is out of control.

This is Trump's { Ethiopia, Stalingrad, Saigon, Normandy, Light Brigade, Armada, Waterloo, Gallipoli, KYIV, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Bay of Pigs, Midway, Little Big Horn, Fredricksburg, Agincourt, Gettysburg, Leyte Gulf, and so on.}

Ultimately, The Duchy of Grand Fenwick might take down Trump, by delivering the Q-Bomb to the wrong destination, mistaking Doral for Washington D.C.

And he plays with the football.

Being on a limited budget, I find fuel very expensive now. I anticipate it becoming worse. Food prices are already outrageous, and I think will become worse.

I plan to expand my garden this year, hoping I am able to grow more to put up to last longer. I will be gathering the food that I find on my property, too.

Too many people are comfortable and too many still think capitalism can work even with the overwhelming evidence that it cannot and does not.

Capitalism absolutely requires there be people who go without even the most basic things so the people at the top can have more and more.

We should have done the pitchforks and torches a long time ago.

The most votes were for ‘fuel unaffordable ‘
Next were the responses to not select any choices …
The rest were just about even .

Let me say how I think things will happen .
First fuel becomes unavailable , then unaffordable … except for the wealthy who will be able to pay whatever the costs .
Next food will become unavailable , then unaffordable … except for the wealthy , again .
And of the last 2 choices ?
If an overthrow happened , then the world as we know it (now) would change .

Of course we could jump straight to the overthrow , and avoid the whole catastrophe .

So now that a few weeks have elapsed , does anyone want to change their choice , or anyone else care to choose an option ?

This is an abundance of reading but it's full of information.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_oil_market_chronology_from_2003

The highest recorded price per barrel maximum of $147.02 was reached on July 11, 2008.[8] After falling below $100 in the late summer of 2008, prices rose again in late September. On September 22, oil rose over $25 to $130 before settling again to $120.92, marking a record one-day gain of $16.37. Electronic crude oil trading was temporarily halted by NYMEX when the daily price rise limit of $10 was reached, but the limit was reset seconds later and trading resumed.[9] By October 16, prices had fallen again to below $70, and on November 6 oil closed below $60.[10] Then in 2009, prices went slightly higher, although not to the extent of the 2005–2007 crisis, exceeding $100 in 2011 and most of 2012. Since late 2013 the oil price has fallen below the $100 mark, plummeting below the $50 mark one year later.

As the price of producing petroleum did not rise significantly, the price increases have coincided with a period of record profits for the oil industry.[citation needed] Between 2004 and 2007, the profits of the six supermajors – ExxonMobil, Total, Shell, BP, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips – totaled $494.8 billion.[11] Likewise, major oil-dependent countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Russia, Venezuela and Nigeria have benefited economically from surging oil prices during the 2000s.

We know that when the price of oil goes up, a long list of every day goods go up. The price of oil can go down but grocery and other goods prices never return to the original price. Prepare for all consumer goods to increase, not just groceries.
