https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/poll-confidence-supreme-court-drops-record-low-rcna262459The latest NBC News poll shows that 22% of registered voters nationally said they have a "great deal" or "quite a bit" of confidence in the high court. Another 40% said they had "some" confidence, while 38% said they had "very little" or "no" confidence.
The previous low point for voters' impressions of the Supreme Court came in the wake of the ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, when 27% said they had a great deal or quite a bit of confidence. That number hit a high of 52% in December 2000, just before the courts Bush v. Gore ruling that paved the way for George W. Bush to take office, a polarizing decision that buffeted the courts popularity.
confidence in the court than Democrats do, there has been a drop among both constituencies over time, according to NBC News polling data. The court currently has a 6-3 conservative majority that often favors Republican causes on issues such as abortion and voting rights.
In the latest survey, 9% of Democrats said they had a great deal or quite a bit of confidence in the court, compared with 35% of Republicans who do.

(1,706 posts)We've had men who owned slaves as president. Leaders across multiple religious faiths have been used the faith of their followers to enrich themselves or sexually abuse people. We've had presidents embrace racism even in the modern era. Power is a very corrupting force.

(2,796 posts)22% have 'great deal' or 'quite a bit' support for the Supreme Court.
40% have 'some confidence'.
38% have 'very little or no' support.
In other words, 62% have some to a lot of confidence in scotus.
Only 38% have little or no confidence in scotus.
That is 5 of 8 supporting scotus with only 3 of 8 saying it sucks.
It's about twice trump's approval rating.
It is a meaningless poll, since 'some confidence' is ambiguous. Scotus did just recently rule against trump tariffs which could sway democrats to select 'some confidence'.
A better poll would ask 'do you overall approve or disapprove'. An approval poll.

(78 posts)It was the blatantly unconstitutional, highly partisan Bush vs Gore ruling by the GOP Rehnquist 5on 12/12/00 that killed SCOTUS approval rating and democracy in America. It's what made Trump and the Roberts court possible. No one should ever forget this.
