Bumbling idiot Trump can do no wrong and competent, hard working Biden was constantly criticized

AWOL Draft Dodger W Bush was a hero, while a two tours of duty volunteer, wounded purple heart recipient John Kerry a villian who was successfully swiftboated without any media push back.

Until Democrats admit this is the reality of the corporate media landscape and develop effective ways to combat the billionaire class controlling the narrative, every election will be a constant uphill battle no matter how badly Republicans are destroying the country.

I wish the Democratic Party would hire, young talented internet media experts to capture the youth vote and get them to actually turn out to vote. I would also love to see Leftwing Podcasters counter all the rightwing "brosphere" followers.

We assume Americans value hard work, competence, honesty, integrity.

The voting data tells this is not true.

One third value these things.
One third value dishonesty, crimes, hatred, racism.
One third don't give a damn.

So the problem is much bigger than just getting a better PR team for Dems.

All the public shootings with military grade weapons.

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for American children.

No vaccines, no healthcare, closing hospitals.

So we are in a civil war with daily deaths.

No one cares enough to do anything about it.

Way too many Americans are guided and misinformed by an algorithm from their constant use of social media .
Way too many do not even know how to search for factual information or just don’t care to.
Confirmation bias is what they seek because it gives them the warm fuzzies and stokes their rage.

… from the quagmire we find ourselves in.

As far as major media coming to our aid, forget about that. The owners of major media will not allow that to happen.

You say we can pass laws that breakup media monopolies. Well, review Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent. It would be difficult back then (1981), impossible now. Institutional capture (by the oligarchy and their well paid agents in the major media, courts, Congress, and Presidential Administrations) make that a momentous task. Never mind that the rot descends all the way down to local governments, school boards, and the like.

You may say major media has lost its grip on the American mind, splintered by social media. So there’s hope. However, what we have now is splintered encampments that only listen to their own camps, to the ideas entrained in the brains of so many of us by 40-45 years of oligarchy.

There is no Walter Conkrite to our rescue (and if you’ve read the Chomsky reference, above, you understand that he, too, primarily championed the causes of the “establishment”). Nor is there a website (other than DU, of course) that speaks truth to power over a wide audience.

Honestly, I could rant on. I don’t know how we dig ourselves out of the mess we’re in. There was the Civil War, the Civil Rights movement, the anti war movement that helped bring about the end of the forever war in Vietnam. But my mind is not creative enough to see what’s next.

Looking at Politico, CNN, NBC News, and MSNOW all have negative stories about Trump featured prominently. The New Yorker Politics podcast the last couple of weeks has primarily been about being unprepared for Iran.

is that the ONLY bipartisanship that exists in this country, is when the left and the right team up to attack the left.

You'll see it regarding the Epstein files, where anyone on the "left", no matter how innocuous their connection, will lose their positions (political, professional, or academic), while those on the "right" will hold their positions, even if there is video of them dancing with Epstein while oogling 12 year old girls.

Unlike Democrats, Retrumplicans are NEVER required, nor expected to hold their leaders accountable.

See Al Franken for example #127,543 of this phenomenon.

And it's hard to blame platforms anyway. If you're talking about the red pill podcasts, that's not really traditional media and it's unfortunately driven by the audience of men who are looking for other people to blame. Not really like it's being pushed by anyone other than their audience.

We are not doing and have not done anything to push people in the opposite direction.

We should.

We have too many people clinging to what worked in old elections. We are a long way from 2008, perhaps not in years but certainly in the social media landscape and the economic realities facing younger voters today. There seems to be little recognition of a new reality by the entrenched wing of the Party.

I have tried for 7 plus years to get people from my age cohort (I am now 29yo) involved here. Almost universally all who looked at the board said thanks but no thanks.

There is a deep current of hostility from some (not a huge number, but too many to ignore) here towards us young folk, plus a sometimes staggering (and only getting worse unfortunately as the rivers of time flow on) age-related cultural gap (which is a natural occurrence, unfortunately).

That all said, there are MANY wonderful older people here, they are deffo in the majority here, but the overall board thematics just are not going capture any significant numbers of younger people.

I will end with a positive. The number of blatant, outright youth-bash posts, which used to be legion, has decreased here as of late. For that I am very grateful.

Just my anecdotal observance but I think the Dem base is moving left. It feels like the opposite because disaffected Rs switching to D get a lot of attention. But, I do think the WI supreme court race might have been a moment when Ds looked at the money Elon spent and figured out how to use it against the candidate.

But it was too late...reminded me of when Johnson was pushed out over the Vietnam war...and we lost. And the war went on for years...Nixon won two terms and then we had Watergate. We need to stand up for our members...consider Al Franken. I look forward to a move left and loyalty, loyalty loyalty.
