My wife often joins me in March when I have a longer stay in Barcelona. This time, longtime DU member blm told me that her daughter was studying there, and she would put us in touch, in case we all had time to meet up. It turned out that on Sunday, we all did.
So, a loud Catalan "Bon dia" from my wife and me, as well as "baby blm," who isn't much of a baby any more, to DU back in the USA:

Lovely photo! Lovely baby blm.
If blm isn't bragging, it's due to pure modesty on her part, and not because she lacks a reason.

Although its only a one hour flight, we almost never make it up there. It must be at least ten years since weve been.

I miss her, but, love knowing how happy she is there while chasing that masters degree.
Thankyou.
And
.Thankyou to DU, MWO, and Bartcop.
Ava spent plenty of hours on my lap where we would Guggle various animal photos and videos. Remember when DU linked to Smirking Chimp, and the days of MIMS - Monkey In a Man Suit? Avas first day of preschool, the teacher pointed out a photo of the president and Ava loudly replied, George Bush is a monkey, ooo
ooo

(60,215 posts)I spent nine months there in the late sixties, and as you see, feel myself getting drawn back again and again. I keep my knowledge of spoken and written Catalan very much alive, and never tire of the satisfaction of being recognized by hotel staff, salespeople, etc. who speak to me right away in Catalan even if it has been four months since they last saw me. It's a language that no one really NEEDS to learn if you don't live there. Still, the people there LOVE it when visitors from "far away" places learn their language and culture. I found the place unbelievably special when I first got there, and I still feel the same way now. I would advise said parental units to go spend a couple of weeks there themselves. It gets a LOT easier to understand once you've had your own chance to fall under the city's spell. Resist if you can, and feel no shame if you can't.
Oh, and don't worry if you don't know Tagalog. That is a personal fetish of mine. Ava will explain
