California Peggy is doing better each day.

As many of you know, California Peggy had surgery on Monday at the UCLA Ronald Raygun hospital. (Did I spell that right?) Following the surgery there was an episode of very fast heart rate, which the doctors think was brought on by the stress of the surgery and won't recur, The surgeon has spoken with Peggy's regular cardiologist about changing one of her drugs. There was a lot of congestion right after the surgery, which made it hard for me to understand what she was saying, but this has gradually gotten better. At first she was having trouble sleeping, but this too has gradually gotten better. There's still no word as to when she might come home.

What she had does not exactly qualify as “minor surgery,” and constant monitoring for clotting is imperative in the beginning. It sounds like she is getting good care from seasoned professionals, and that is the best news one can hope for from “external” sources. She also has a high will to be live, which is the other necessary half of the equation for recovery, so it sounds like there are solid reasons to be optimistic. Still—don’t plan participation in any marathons for at least the next six weeks.

or really any surgery requiring general anesthesia is normal. And of course they want you to cough as soon as you wake up and it hurts like stink - but it's necessary.
