Committee Chairman Rand Paul (R-Ky.) voted against reporting Mullin to the full Senate, but Democrat John Fetterman crossed party lines to support Mullin in the 8-7 vote.
...without Fetterman's vote, Rand Pauls opposition meant Mullin needed a Democrat on the committee to cross party lines to keep his nomination alive and discharge Mullins nomination from the committee to the full chamber; republicans would lack the 60 votes needed to discharge Mullins nomination from the committee and to the full chamber, should he have lost todays panel vote.
Hood-winked.
