...things like desalinization plants or power plants will hurt the neighbors aligned with the US but won't move the economic needle/price of oil which helps Iran if they keep any production going and ship it out.

He is willingly going down this path instead of taking an exit. He thinks it’s a game and threatens, cracks jokes, or makes contradictory statements. It’s a mess he created and deserves all the blame for.

In his mind, the idea of de-escalation is equivalent to weakness. He doesn't care if everything gets destroyed or how many innocent lives are lost. He has to portray this fake superhero image that his cult has built him up to be and as long as it's not his money or his life at risk, it's full speed ahead.
