hearing what he said about beating his daughter took me right back to being a kid with a father who sang a little song as he snapped his belt and demanded we bare our butts for him.

I'm so glad he's dead. If it sounds heartless, you wouldn't think so if you knew all he did.

But, the memory of the terror...that's always going to be there.

My youngest brother got the worst of it, because he refused to cry, so he'd get it until he could barely stand or my father got tired.
