Former DNC, RNC lawyers launch group to stop Trump effort to federalize elections
A group of lawyers from both parties on Monday formed the Bipartisan American Election Project (BAEP), an attempt to preserve election procedures after President Trump called to nationalize elections last month.
The organization, led by attorneys Bob Bauer and Ben Ginsberg, who previously co-chaired the Presidential Commission on Election Administration in 2013, is dedicated to defending the constitutional principles and democratic norms essential to the conduct of free and fair elections in the United States and to public confidence in the results, according to a release.
Bauer previously was the general counsel to the Democratic National Committee and White House counsel under former President Obama. Ginsberg was the national counsel to former President George W. Bushs two presidential campaigns and a critic of Trumps efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
A host of other officials from both sides of the aisle are on the board of the organization, including Dana Remus, the White House counsel under former President Biden, and Donald Verrilli, solicitor general under Obama. Michael Carvin, a Justice Department official under former President Reagan, is part of a senior advisory group to BAEP.
