NJ-12: Hamawy (D) endorsed by CAIR Action
The Council on American-Islamic Relations Action, the political arm of the nations largest Muslim advocacy group, is endorsing Adam Hamawy in the Democratic primary for the 12th congressional district.
At a time when our communities are calling for principled leadership and a renewed commitment to justice, equity, and human dignity, we are proud to support Dr. Adam Hamawy for Congress, CAIR Action executive director Basim Elkarra said in a statement. Dr. Hamawy has demonstrated a deep understanding of the issues impacting Muslim Americans and all underserved communities, and he brings a spirit of service that reflects the very best of our shared values.
Hamawy, a U.S. army veteran and surgeon, has also announced endorsements in recent weeks from the New Jersey Muslim Civic Coalition Action, Americans for Justice in Palestine Action, and Track AIPAC, a popular pro-Palestine social media account.
If he wins the Democratic primary to succeed Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing) in the 12th district, Hamawy would be the first Muslim elected to Congress from New Jersey. Hes made his support for Palestine, and his opposition to U.S. intervention in the Middle East, a core part of his campaign platform in the solidly blue district.
