If Talarico wins TX, he needs to keep the seat and not run for president.

Some Dems may say he's not seasoned enough but you always strike when the iron's hot and seize the moment. Dems are notorious for letting those slip by.

(1,809 posts)Regardless I think we would be better off if he stayed active in the state to build the party. We have this habit of getting very excited about candidates running in red states, generally running races they don't win, often losing by significant margins and then they aren't heard from much.
Instead we need them to focus on building their state parties. Getting our hopes up on long shots who have a collective history of being a flash in the pan isn't working.

(105 posts)A good example would be Beto doing this but he a tiny bit of baggage that Republicans amplified and Dems ran away from like they always do and went for the corporate dem instea.

(23,281 posts)He needs to win something, and gain experience in national, as opposed to state, governance.
Lets not let idolatry cloud our vision- his time will come.

(3,579 posts)That said, I really like him.
If he wins in Texas, I agree, he should serve his term. Then he can run for President.

(4,475 posts)There are many qualified potential candidates for president who are more seasoned and experienced in politics and governing. Beto made the exact same mistake, running for president after he lost to Ted Cruz. He lost a lot of credibility with Texans for that decision. It made him appear over-confident and unwilling to pay his dues and gain experience in higher levels of government. It reminded me, of celebrities running for president just because they have name recognition. Not a good enough reason to run for president.
There will be a place for Talarico in leadership, no matter what, just as there will be for Jasmine Crockett. I hope we do see him as president one day, but 2028 is too soon.

(105 posts)Someday when their old and out of touch with country? I hope to see Crockett in 2028 primary and Talarico if he loses TX. And either are just as capable of winning nomination if the corporate Dems stay out of the way.

Edited to add last time a sitting members of the house of reps won the presidency
James A. Garfield in 1880 is the last (and only) sitting member of the House of Representatives to be elected directly to the presidency.
