And mouth disease (HTMD) this is the first time I have ever heard of this type of outbreak in all my years of teaching and even when I was in school. It is so disgusting that now because of the Sec of Health brainworm we are seeing diseases long thought eliminated.

(991 posts)True it is not very common. My youngest had it when he was 4 but none of my other children did. This was due to a good pediatrician who knew what it was and the simple ways of reducing transmission.

Agree with the others, it's a common, non-vaccine preventable virus. I had it 20 years ago as an adult, hurts like the dickens to have to walk around when you've got it.

(1,120 posts)Had a family reunion last year where nearly the the kiddos had it, or had given it to their younger siblings. That's why you don't see it in K-12, they have already had it. Wish it would have a vaccine.

(41 posts)It is endemic. In young children it is common and a minor illness. I had a 16 year old patient who got it - could barely walk because of all the blisters on his feet.

I don't want to make light of this condition, but this was a complete setup that I had to mention it.

(3,644 posts)Got it from one of my preschool kiddos as an adult. Not fun, went through all the symptoms, which lasted a month. From a fever, rash and joint pain, dont want to ever get it again.
