The U.N. approved a resolution to call the transatlantic slave trade the "gravest crime against humanity" and advocate for reparations.

The resolution urges global efforts to address systemic racism and collaborate with international organizations on reparatory justice.

The U.S., Argentina and Israel opposed the resolution.

52 countries, including the U.K. and all 27 European Union members, abstained from the vote.
