(9,316 posts)Protesters plan to be along Interstate 35 during evening traffic today to further denounce actions against free speech and assembly in what organizers say is a coordinated effort along the highway that stretches from Minnesota to the Texas border with Mexico.
A press release announcing the effort was sent out late Wednesday night alerting the media of the event, scheduled for 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The protest action along I-35 is organized by Democracy Bridge Minneapolis and community groups across Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, according to the press release. The Temple protest is organized by Indivisible CentTex.
Democracy Bridge is known for organizing participants who stand on bridges and visible areas along highways in protest.
In Temple, participants plan to gather on the east side of the SW H K Dodgen Loop and South General Bruce Drive intersection, and promoted parking at Cracker Barrel on the east side of the intersection.
South General Bruce Drive is the name for the I-35 frontage road (service road) that runs alongside the main lanes of I-35 through Temple.
Protesters say they are demonstrating to protect the "promise of being indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

(26,073 posts)There is a 7/11 near the protest site, so people can get coffee or hot chocolate.
I have some "Hot Hands" hand warmers. Might buy some more to pass around if the store isn't out of them at this time of year.
I also have plenty of hats, gloves, and scarves, plus a fake fur lined bala clava. Fur lined boots. Thick socks.
We will be in a park and on the surrounding sidewalks. No shelter except a library across the street where people can warm up for a few minutes and come back.
But I am dedicated enough to stick it out. Not everyone is.

(2,319 posts)turnout, even peaceful, The Republicans will still declare it an "Up-Rising" to enact the Insurrection Act......which is what they have been trying to provoke with ICE/BorderPatrol violence against demonstrators for the last year.........

(2,319 posts)Today.........we should all call/write/email/text each of our state's DEM U.S. House members and U.S Senate Members.........and collectively ask them to lead the march, in their state/city...... considering that the most of them, (not all), are not getting involved, and haven't been for decades.......They show up to vote, but little more.........There are over 200 of them, folks.......
Personally, I would love to see DeGette, Hickenlooper, and Bennett leading the march in Denver, and walking the entire route, not just show up for a photo op.....(LOL....as if they would even show up for that).........

(4,767 posts)Now communication is down to constituents only! Emails and voice mails .well the responses I get are not even related to the issue! I do not have a Democratic representative in my state. Havent for quite some time. At this point taking to the streets is all we have. Those not inclined to do so should stay home! As for me Im happy when people do something!!!
