4. And this right here is one of the most important reasons why developing and using the bomb against Japan

was a bad idea in the long run. Discussions about how many casualties we would have suffered if we had gone ahead with an invasion of Japan aside, nukes have gotten a reputation as a war-winner. Any time you get into a war, and get stuck for an easy, prime-time-ready victory, just drop a few nukes, and everything will be fine. MacArthur wanted to use them in Korea. LeMay wanted to use them in Vietnam. Trump wants to use them everywhere. These are people who don't have the moral decency to understand the catastrophic consequences of using nukes. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were pop-guns compared to the bombs they have now. No one can truly calculate the sheer mind-boggling destruction they can cause. And nobody, nobody in the world, will be safe from those consequences.
