Throughout his 2022 campaign for U.S. Senate, John Fetterman often took to social media to needle the few centrist Senate Democrats with histories of breaking party ranks.
Then Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor, Fetterman cast himself as the anti-Joe Manchin and anti-Kyrsten Sinema candidate who would give Democrats a reliable 51st vote in the Senate.
The oversize, tattooed, hoodie-and-shorts-wearing Fetterman overcame Dr. Mehmet Oz's celebrity status and his near-fatal stroke to become the only Democrat to flip a GOP Senate seat during that cycle.
Fast forward four years, and the former Braddock mayor finds himself playing the part he once deplored.

FWIW.. I was for Conor Lamb out here on Kauai.. and was told here .. How Progressive Fetterman was.

(3,215 posts)But it makes me not trust my own perceptions of people.
I think something went haywire in his brain after the stroke.
Cha
(319,178 posts)not happy with his 180 degree turn(my words).. Unlike RRK Jr's wife who's gong along.

(114,015 posts)She may be at a breaking point having basically gotten him elected when he was so impacted by his stroke and mental health issues that followed. I really feel for her.
Here is an overview (fairly recent):

(114,015 posts)and tried to educate others on the impact of stroke--and the necessity for him to get the help he needed. But, his change in positions NOW are a total 180 and I do NOT advocate for him at all. His wife clearly is not either.
So, your accusations toward me, however implicit- are way off base and I do NOT appreciate the false accusations. Nor, I would bet will most DUers who are aghast at what has happened to John Fetterman, after most here WENT TO BAT for him. So, you are going to call us all "unhinged?" Really? Tread lightly, SunImp. You are about to step on the perpetual rake.

(2,706 posts)There's Duers out there though who "know better" trying to guilt people for voting for this opportunist. Lamb would have been better knowing all that we know now. Fetterman was given the opportunity to change & do better unfortunately HE failed his voters & the party.
Thank you for clarifying your points.

(12,339 posts)On the contrary, Ive seen open admission of folks votes for him and most non-PA support for those who were hoodwinked (my sister and BIL among those who gave money and time in support of him).

that a 108-point decrease in his approval rating means hes dead in the waterat least as far as Dems are concerned.
With any luck, hell simply acknowledge this and step aside rather than run again.

(41,702 posts)No I don't want Fetterman in office until the end of his term, and I voted for the guy. I contributed to his campaign.
There's no chance he'll be re-elected in 2028 ... the Repukes don't want him and the Dems are totally disgusted. We're hoping he resigns by the end of this year, or perhaps early next year. Gov. Shapiro would be able to appoint someone qualified to replace Fetterman, and that person will get an opportunity to run for re-election in 2028.

(3,579 posts)Fetterman had a stroke that I suspect rewired his cognition.
Manchin was a unicorn - a semi-reliable Democratic vote in one of the reddest states in the country.
Gabbard is a Russian asset and is a little kookie besides.
Sinema is the biggest imposter of the lot, but she was ultimately more about personal pleasures and celebrity than policy.
And Lieberman wasn't an imposter. He was just a sore loser that held antiquated policy beliefs and a deep abiding love for war.

(4,565 posts)ago decided the Party needed a Big Tent approach to our membership, and that
"litmus tests" should not be used for selecting candidates as we enlarge the tent. So maybe we are more susceptible to trolls and imposters?
GOP makes no pretense of a big tent, and everything they do is put under one giant litmus test. Real hard to sneak any WOKE local activists by eagle eyed Republican.local committees.

(108,815 posts)That's how they were able to brainwash Fetterman, Sinema, Manchin, Lieberman, and so on. Rupert Murdoch is a dangerous psychopath. And the Fox brand is dangerous.
