Op-ed: The child care crisis is especially bad in Omaha. I'll fight in Congress to cap costs

The numbers don’t lie: The cost of living has dramatically increased under the Trump administration's chaotic economic policies that put billionaires and corporations ahead of working families.

Food is more expensive. Health care costs have gone up for most of us. Gas prices are dramatically going up because of the war.

But it’s child care that is the biggest monthly bill for thousands of Nebraska families — and the cost keeps rising.

The child care cost crisis is especially bad in Omaha. According to Lending Tree, Omaha is one of the most expensive locations in the country for average child care costs, as compared to average monthly rent costs.

If child care costs are capped at 7% of income, does that mean the providers will be required to cut their prices ? MichMan Monday #2
I believe it will be a tax deduction for the difference Omaha Steve Tuesday #5
They need to have protections for taxpayers so providers aren't given a blank check to charge whatever they like. MichMan Tuesday #6

As a grandmother to one and another one on the way I am extremely concerned about the high costs of child care in Omaha and everywhere. I support John.

I met him in 2024 when he came to my door and delivered a yard sign, and I saw him at a couple Blue Dot events as well. He is a truly good guy, and I support him 100%
I think he deserves to win the nomination and the general, but that will mean he vacates his state legislature seat. Much is riding on his one Democratic vote in our state (abortion rights being a big one), so that has caused some hate and bad feelings towards him for even running.
Instead of the hate, we need to focus on flipping some other legislature seats around the state to strengthen our position in the Unicameral.
John can win, and having him in Washington to bolster the House is far more important right now.

Every provider needs to have a fixed amount they are all allowed to charge.
