Iran live updates: Caine says U.S. has sent B-52s to Iran

What to know

• Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at a press briefing this morning with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that B-52 bombers are flying over Iranian airspace. This is the first time the U.S. military has used the bombers in the war with Iran.

• Hegseth indicated at a Pentagon briefing that reopening the Strait of Hormuz is not a key objective and that the Trump administration is open to a deal to end the war.

• Gas prices in the United States rose above $4 per gallon this morning, the highest since 2022, as Iran continues its stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz. Stocks, however, opened higher, signaling investor optimism.
