Trump has a social media toddler tantrum after attending SCOTUS birthright citizenship hearing

Not long after having attended the Supreme Court hearing to hear oral arguments on the legality of ending birthright citizenship – becoming the first sitting president in history to do so – President Donald Trump took to social media Wednesday to lash out at the longstanding and constitutionally enshrined right, and with a claim that was blatantly false.

“We are the only Country in the World STUPID enough to allow ‘Birthright’ Citizenship!” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, just as oral arguments in the Supreme Court hearing had ended.

Despite Trump’s claim, birthright citizenship exists in dozens of countries, including the United States’ neighbors Canada and Mexico. In the United States, birthright citizenship was enshrined as a right in 1868 through the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Trump has long sought to eliminate birthright citizenship in the United States, signing an executive order on his first day back in office last year to challenge the longstanding precedent.

he never puts his hand on the Bible.

It was very strange that no one reminded him and no fundamentalist Christians said anything afterward.

You had Hair Furor standing in front of Melania Robot who held the Bible out in front of him. He just stood there without placing his hand on the book.

This was after he promised to be dictator on Day One. My thought is that he knew he would constantly challenge the Constitution beyond just day one. And that as a superstitious person, he didn't want to make the oath religiously sacred.

Where was the media? Where were the Christians? All the Republicans concerned over Presidential dementia? Not a peep.

Search: 'People who took oath of office without hand on a bible'

There is NO requirement for hand on the bible for oath taking.

And any self serving jackass who thinks hovering his hand over a particular religious tome, or crossing his fingers behind his back makes the oath non binding is really a 4 year old engaging in fantasy.

The issue, where Trump is involved is that he lies and never honors ANY oath, promise, or pledge. Hand on bible or up somebody's skirt, he does what he wants and damn any complaints by anybody. He has no honor and no intention to every do 'the honorable thing' unless he gets paid bigly.

I wouldn't put my hand on the bible because it would be meaningless or even misleading as an oath.

That's the point. Trump claims to be with the fundamentalist Christians. There's been no President in recent memory courting that group who has not placed his hand on the book during an oath.

The last President not to do so was Lyndon Johnson in 1963 because of extenuating circumstances of Kennedy's assassination. He was sworn in on Air Force One but used a Catholic prayer book. That is what they could find.

So since then:
Richard Nixon -- yes
Gerald Ford -- yes
Jimmy Carter -- yes
Ronald Reagan -- yes
George H.W. Bush -- yes
Bill Clinton -- yes
George W. Bush -- yes
Barack Obama -- yes
Donald Trump1 -- yes
Joe Biden -- yes
Donald Trump2 -- NO

If an atheist won as President and didn't place his hand on the book, fine, great even. I'd love it. BUT this isn't Trump and it says something.

It is no different that WBush being used as a front man by the Cheney/Republican CABAL or Reagan being used as a front man for HWBush's/Republican Cabal...

We can't all keep saying Trump This, Trump That.......the Republicans will just say, it was Trump, and go on in the shadows with the agenda of the 2025 crowd.......START SAYING "THE REPULICANS" INSTEAD OF TRUMP, people.......

IN REALITY, It isn't Trump per se........It is the Republican Senators, Republican House Members, and the Republican Supreme Court Justices that put him in power in his first term, and have done everything/anything to corruptly/illegally keep him in power every single day, ever since. If those three groups had wanted, they could have done away with him in the first week of his first term. And certainly in his two legitimate impeachments........

Those three, along with all the Republican Corporations, and entirely Republican owned/operated Media have allowed him to do his off the wall shit, as long as they get what they want, and Putin gets whatever he wants, by extortion and blackmail of Trump and numerous Republican Politicians........

I’m not saying this one isn’t, but most of Trump’s agenda, besides self enrichment and aggrandization, is either to settle petty beefs or part of a result of some right wing ideologue whispering in his ear. I am sure some of the current Justice’s wish the Constitution supported the end of birthright citizenship even more than Trump does, but I am hoping, like you, that they send the message that there is only so far they’ll go to support him or their personal right wing agendas.

Much as some of us might like to contest how her emigration to this country was engineered, I'm afraid it's too late for that.

Interestingly, she wasn't naturalized until Barron was almost 5 months old. He was born on March 3, 2006, and Melania became a citizen on July 28 of that year. However, there's no disputing that his father was and is a US citizen, so there's that. 😑

18. Birth right citizenship isn't all that easy in Mexico
Wed Apr 1, 2026, 03:04 PM

They have it, but I know someone who tried it.

It took them several months to get the baby Mexican citizenship. (Dual US/Mexican citizenship) They also had to prove that the child "would not be a charge".....They also needed more documentation from the US. I think they needed parents and grandparents birth certificates or something like. Yes, their baby obtained Mexican citizenship despite the parents not being Mexican citizens, but it wouldn't have happened if they just "went home".

There was also the mandatory trip to the US consulate, but that one went fairly smooth. All they needed at the US consultate were the parents' documentation and passports. Baby obtained a US passport.

They wanted their child to have dual citizenship, but it wasn't all quite that easy.

This is different than the US, where the citizenship process is immediate. In the US, everyone gets a birth certificate, no questions asked.

Congress could write to laws to preserve it, but make the process a bit more tedious if they wanted to discourage it a little bit. For instance, if both parents are not citizens, they could require a follow up appointment like what happened with the person that I knew in Mexico.

If you look at any Mexican birth certificate, it will list the grandparents. It's amazing that my uncle was able to obtain one since he did not have documentation. (1925) However, I don't know if he was considered a Mexican citizen.

However, Trump trying to change the birth certificate process via EO is not the way to do this.

If birthright citizenship is a constitutional right, I believe Congress neither needs to affirm it nor can abridge it in the manner you’d like to see. If we are going down this road, a Constitutional Amendment is required. The amendment process, from proposal to ratification, requires a degree of debate and agreement that helps ensure the President or Congress can’t change its contents without going to the people of the states. How far the Supreme Court can stretch its interpretive duties and powers where its political goals align with the other branches is a different question I hope is answered in part by a 9-0 decision here. I’m not saying you shouldn’t advocate for the end or modification of birthright citizenship, but like other Constitutional rights, I’m not in favor of attempts to limit them through a bureaucratic process that is most likely unconstitutional. Depending on the Court’s decision and Trump’s response, this may become a hot button issue, so I welcome debate about this, especially from those on the left that support a change as I feel it counterproductive to both party unity and individual understanding to require we all agree on every issue.

But, they were on American soil, I guess, since they were at military bases. Both parents were American citizens. My brother was in the Navy then.

Wonder if the one born in Japan could get dual citizenship if he wanted it.
