(14,445 posts)On the other hand, as someone said this morning at 3 am while we were all eating avgolemono soup in the parish hall, "Christ is risen, and the priest is dead!" Our poor priest looked like he had been through the wringer.

(14,445 posts)Our parish is probably 75% English now, either third generation non-Greek-speaking or completely American converts.

(34,497 posts)Armenians have these salutations in Armenian, but the botch up rate is pretty high. Of course, everyone says it in Armenian. If you don't speak Armenian, you need to memorize it and it isn't all that easy.
