House Rejects War Powers Resolution In Super Close Vote

The House rejected a resolution to end the Iran war in an extremely close vote on Thursday.

All Republicans voted against the resolution except Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who voted for it, and Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), who voted present. The resolution failed by a single vote, 213 to 214 and one present.

All Democrats voted for the resolution except Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), who voted no. Three other Democrats who voted against previous antiwar resolutions switched their positions. It was the first vote since Trump threatened to annihilate Iran's "whole civilization."

In a statement to Axios, Golden claimed the resolution would "weaken our hand" during peace negotiations.

Cavan Kharrazian, a senior advisor to the liberal group Demand Progress, blasted Golden for casting a "decisive vote" against the resolution, but it's possible Davidson would have voted with Republicans if Golden voted with Democrats, since Davidson had voted in favor of a previous resolution in March but shifted toward Republicans on Thursday.
