GOOGLE is promoting it (or allowing it on their various social media)

It was on a so-called dating website, in a chatroom called Without Her Knowledge, that Pelicot was able to connect with dozens of other men to instigate the rapes of his then-wife, Gisèle. While drugged unconscious by him, she was raped over 200 times by 70 men, not all of whom could be tracked down by police.
The Pelicot case briefly shone a spotlight on this dark corner of the internet. But while Coco, the website involved, was shut down and public attention moved elsewhere, this behavior did not disappear.
A monthslong CNN As Equals investigation has uncovered a hidden, online world where the commodification and amplification of sexual violence against women is flourishing. . . .
MUCH WORSE reading at the link - this can be difficult for some, so YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. There are no videos or photos, but just reading about what these creeps did to their wives can be triggering.

(11,367 posts)Who would get their jollies out of having sex with a lifeless body? This isn't about sex - it's about control and this seems to be an all too often act of abuse by too many men. Pedos, incels, sexual abusers and rapists... it seems that men, young to old, are no longer interested in consensual sex acts with emotional attachment. Men seeking to feel powerful by denigrating women and/or children and a whole internet community out there normalizing and encouraging this behavior. This needs to stop.

(53,261 posts)The weird thing is, there is no shortage of women who seem to want to be dominated and abused.

(30,494 posts)The very title of this criminal "dating site" is "Without Her Knowledge" so it's clear they're not seeking those who want to be "dominated and abused".
Dominique Pelican, the sicko in France who betrayed his wife in this way received a 20 year prison sentence after being reported by his wife. She insisted the trial be public, waiving her option for anonymity in the interests of shifting shame on the party who'd earned it rather than on herself.

(205 posts)to immediate castration of all involved, chemical or butchery, don't care, then a life/death sentence. You'll see the instances of this behavior drop like a lead balloon. There are not harsh enough consequences for this activity and without guardrails depraved males will not stop at anything, lest they be stopped.

Hundreds of thousands of views of those videos
62 MILLION visits to the site IN FEBRUARY ALONE!
I'm beginning to wonder about the "not all men" thing.
Diraven
(1,925 posts)The 62 million visit count is for the entire motherless.com website, the overwhelming majority of which is more conventional porn, not the rape videos. So implying there are 62 million rapists out there from this is kind of a stretch.
I'm in no way defending this, just clarifying that citing the 62 million number could be exaggerating the problem.

(29,562 posts)...here on DU, and elsewhere, and could not come up with anything efficient. It does seem, on the whole, that men get into more behavioral trouble than women. Is that because society, to a certain extent, is still largely OK withe the "Boys will be boys" BS? I have long thought that if I were a man, I would be insulted to have it assumed that I could not control my behavior because of my genitalia.
I have read enough of your posts to know that you are a fine man who cherishes his wife and sons. I don't know you personally, of course, but feel quite confident in saying that I think your wife is a lucky woman to be married to you.
NNadir
(38,224 posts)...has focused on molecular biology, which has a place, and is certainly superior in some ways to the thousands of years of religious and other cultural musings on the subject.
This said, I have some profound limits on how much biological reductionism I am willing to accept.
Often - and it is a great stain on American history in particular - these reductionist ideas translate into sexism (and does so more than we think in both directions) into the related biases of racism, for example, the often evoked and odious efforts to attach skin color to intelligence, or even humanity.
Men do commit more murders, among other acts of violence, than women. This is a fact. To the extent it is cultural, having been raised as a man and traveled in the circle of men, I cannot be unaware. We are raised to be aggressors, culturally.
It is also well known however that behavior does have a biochemical basis. I was surprised and struck when my oldest son was born of how many gestures and expressions my son shared with my father, who died years before my son was born.
I am not here to announce that testosterone has no behavioral effects but I note that testosterone in part of the metabolic cycle pathway of estrogen, as I noted in one part of my career.
Being a man, and having been raised as one, I am well aware of the cultural impetus for men to behave badly and to objectify women.
When I first met my wife she was, in the way our culture often measures women, very beautiful and I would be a liar if I claimed I didn't notice that. In the circle of male science nerds in which I traveled there was a lot of commentary about her, well before she and I became lovers - and some as is often the case in male culture certainly bordered on lewd. In fact even after I married her - when we got past her looks to the true source of her beauty which had nothing to do with appearance - men sometimes made off color remarks about her appearance that were offensive to me, but which I shrugged off because some battles are not worth fighting. There is a limit, of course, to such tolerance and I know what it is.
My sons, I am proud to say, are indifferent to looks when they fall in love. They fall in love with intellect and spirit. I very much like the women who are their lovers. Oddly it is my sister-in-law and not me or my wife who remarks on their less the model like looks. Go figure.
All this said, my wife has made me well aware, from the history of her youth, that the threat of rape, owing to her appearance was very real. She had some close calls. It was real even after we married.
It is, regrettably, also an issue with respect to racism and homophobia that people make assumptions about your tolerance for horrible views based on your biological race and sex and sexuality. I hear things based on assumptions about me because I'm a white heterosexual male that are racist and homophobic. I wish I could say that I confront these cases with outrage, but sometimes I just walk away with buried disgust.
It is not possible to draw too firm a line between culture and biology as to declare causation of behavior. All human beings struggle to be just that, human beings, and we all do so in the dance of our biochemistry, a mysterious and often beautiful signature of being.
We can say that the men described in the awful things evoked in the OP are evil and disgusting. This type of behavior is unique, almost exclusively, to being male to be sure although there are instances of sexual violence, often psychological as opposed to physical, among women.
What the ultimate cause of the evil of these awful people may be unknowable but none of that precludes a man from understanding the disgust these acts evoke. I get it, but clearly there are men who don't.
We live in times that make men like Epstein, "Prince" Andrew, and the orange pedophile possible. I suspect culture, more than biology is the root cause.
Don't worry. I'm aware you're nowhere near being a bigot. It is true that the Y chromosome is often degenerate beyond its molecular biology in which, yes, it is a withered little thing as chromosomes go.
To channel and paraphrase Frank Zappa in another context, I'm not a woman, but there are times I wish I could say I wasn't a man.
Thank you for your kind words.

angrychair
(12,357 posts)Of a much larger problem about how women are treated and valued in our American society which is almost exclusively due to Christianity.
The literal root of evil in our society is religion. In the US that is, primarily, Christianity.
It teaches young men that we are not in paradise solely because of women. That women are the servants. The sex slaves. The baby makers. That their value in our society is solely based on their subservience to their father or husband.
That men have rights and women do not.
That is how you get a website like that. You take some of the largest religions in the world, that share a common core book and you manipulate the text to fit the desired narrative, then you teach these manipulations as the inerrant word of God that cannot be questioned. Religion and how it is used to control people and even kill people, is why our world is so screwed up.

(12,606 posts)This morning, knowing I would be unlikely to eat until mid afternoon I made a rare stop for a small egg sandwich at a fast food restaurant. There was a man in front of me and everyone else on the line, and he was parked in the middle of both drive-through lanes so as to see which one would move sooner. One was unable to get around him into one lane or the other. I moved my car and made a gesture to show him I would like to enter one of these two lanes and waived my hand so as to communicate that he should choose a lane so the rest of us could get on the lines.
He opened his door and got out of his little Colorado pick up truck and began yelling. I kept my doors and windows closed, as I had my child in the car with me. While he carried on I simply gestured more emphatically for him to choose a lane. It was obvious he knew What I was requesting.
He gets back in his truck and refuses to move. One of the lines moves forward and he begins to move toward that line, thinking he could get his breakfast a few seconds faster. I begin to move my car to enter the lane and he slams on his brakes in an attempt to cause me to rear-end him. Make no mistake : this is an act of violence .
This was a selfish, angry and entitled man. And I realized something with great clarity this morning: men, as a collective, have lost my grace.
This may not sound like much, but it is a seismic shift. I used to be the pushover, people pleaser, unhealed empath who made excuses for all kinds of bad behavior, even when they damaged me personally, deeply and profoundly.
Men have lost my Grace: I will no longer tolerate self selfish, greedy, patriarchical and misogynistic behavior even when it is not directly pointed at me.
Men have lost my Grace: I will no longer make excuses to justify, pacify and to tolerate aggressive behaviors of men toward women or children, and certainly not toward myself.
Men have lost my grace: what has been revealed more clearly than ever in this last year has been so appalling, so devastating and so horrifying that until men stand up collectively against this violence against women, children and the Earth there shall be no grace. There shall be no shelter in my home. There shall be no comfort in my presence .
Men have lost my grace, but the children (including those who are male), I will fiercely defend.

(12,357 posts)and for the record, I write expert witness statements for asylum seekers who flee domestic violence and gender-based violence. So, I've read a lot of really fucked up accounts of what men do to their partners and children. I have a pretty strong countenance usually.
I have fucking had it up to my eyeballs with violent men and the legal systems and social media sites and influencers that just enable this fucking abhorrent, aberrant behaviour.
