brilynhollyhand:
from where i'm standing, a 12 year old girl can travel 2 hours, claim they're going to school, and instead get an abortion where a baby is viciously murdered.
this is what the left wants. we can't be quiet.
we need to boldly speak out against abortion.

(114,376 posts)encourages nor justifies "raping 12-year-olds) and yes, that is EXACTLY what you are implying. Disgusting.
I don't agree with the Catholic Church on many things, and I certainly hold in great disdain the cover-up of pedophile Priests over the years, but to say or even imply that is their OFFICIAL doctrine is not only wrong, but the most malignant form of religious bigotry I have seen posted here.

(13,636 posts)... is the problem.
And that isn't the only problem
brilynhollyhand's comment demonstrates a tunnel vision focus on the fact a 12 year-old could have a way to terminate a pregnancy, in violation of his PERSONAL religious belief -- a belief that is not shared by countless of his fellow Americans.
brilynhollyhand's comment demonstrates their Un-American determination to pass laws that would impose their PERSONAL religious belief on Americans who do not share that belief -- a deeply Un-American, and frankly Un-Christian impulse.
Faith is about living your beliefs with the faith that doing so can make this a better world for all, whatever their faith may be. It is NOT about CONTROL. It is not about forcing those who do not share your beliefs to live in accord with them or suffer the punishment of jail, or worse, the loss of their life in a procedure performed outside the healthcare system.
Control is the OPPOSITE of faith.
Furthermore, brilynhollyhand's absence of concern that a 12 year-old in this country could be so desperate and lacking in support that she feels she must travel on her own to terminate the pregnancy demonstrates a failure of compassion that I think any person with a conscience, whatever their religious beliefs, or lack thereof, should find disturbing.

(114,376 posts)Actually, maybe it needed to be. I disagree vehemently on the issue of abortion with religion and the "religious" in general, but that was not the subject of our interaction.

(13,636 posts)Never saw it, but clearly the jury agreed with you.

(9,365 posts)and I am also a member of "Catholics for Choice" - which is a real thing. I assume my reasons for that are the same as pretty much everyone else's who support choice.
I missed seeing the post you are replying too and I expect I should be glad I did miss it. But I apologize if I am therefore off topic.

(114,376 posts)The post I responded to had nothing to do with abortion as I likewise explained to another who missed it.
The context of my response--even though the post to which I was replying is now gone, seems to me as though it should still be clear. The poster was claiming that the rape of a 12 yo was consistent with Official Catholic Doctrine-as they stated was made clear/"proven" by the blind eye given to Pedophilia among Priests over the years. It was a horrific post that a jury apparently agreed with my assessment. It had nothing to do with abortion and there is no more pro-Choice DUer than me. I hope this is the last time I have to explain this as it is very upsetting to me that some are suggesting that I am not, simply because the focus of my reply to that poster was a defense against a very repulsive accusation toward Catholics in general.
(Filed under "no good deed goes unpunished, I guess. sigh... )

(9,365 posts)was not so much about abortion, but that the Catholic church -(and probably any belief group) is not a monolith - we do not all think the same. "Catholics for Choice" was just a peg to hang that on. It was not meant as an attack on you or anyone. I apologize for not being more clear.

(28,467 posts)He saw nothing wrong with FORCING a 12-year-old girl to have a baby she is in NO WAY prepared/able to cope with. That is UNMITIGATED bullshit.

(4,543 posts)So at 19, this brilyn guy claims to be a preacher. Did he go to some seminary type thing? Or is it one of those weird so called christian churches where any male over 18 can claim to be a preacher?
I don't know what state he is in, but in alot of states in 2026, a 19 year old dating a fourteen year old is starting to move into indecency with a minor territory.

(4,543 posts)This...idgit (he is definetly not a man of god!)...is saying a twelve old girl can drive herself somewhere to get an abortion? Last i knew, in most states you have to be at least sixteen to get a drivers license! Never mind the fact that if she's twelve and pregnant she was most likely raped by an older male that she knew.
Is this dude confessing that he impregnated a child?

(8,106 posts)It is none of your business!
Quoting a hypothetical pregnant 12 year old for effect?
Without any details?
How?
Legal consequences for the sperm ejaculator?
Statistically, how many abortions are there in the US, how many are those for 12 year olds, and . . . more questions.
Seriously, middle aged white man speaks of things he knows nothing about.
Seriously, trying to get gasps from the crowd, point scoring at the simplest level.
Tells me all I need to know about Brilyn Hollyhand.
He needs to be aware of two things:
- Most 12 year old females have a father who are concerned about their daughter's welfare, and some of them have guns.
- Some people who hitched their wagon to the Trump bandwagon in the past found it to be unprofitable and have had a change of mind.

(7 posts)Not from where I'm sitting. As a former aid at a facility for girls with unwanted pregnancies I've seen girls there at 12, 13, 14. One who wouldn't turn 12 until after the birth. From families who wouldn't even consider the idea of abortion, a couple families who wouldn't allow the consideration of adoption. And one "good christian" family who let us, and their daughter know that this baby was the mark of HER "sin" and her responsibility for the rest of her life to make amends for. Counseling finally revealed that she had been raped by an uncle, family refused to believe it.
I don't know what ended up happening but CPS was called in and I still hope they did better by her than her family ever thought of doing.
