I was at a concert last night that had more security than the WHCD.

My wife and I attended a concert at a local venue. As we approached the building we went through several levels of security.

We were greeted as we approached and directed through one of three checkpoints. Our umbrellas were taken from us and checked. We then walked through a scanner like at an airport. People were wanded and their belongings checked if the scanner beeped. Then our tickets were scanned. Only then were we directed through the door into the building, where our tickets were checked again.

This is standard. Why on earth was there so little security at an event attended by the president, VP, numerous members of the cabinet, members of Congress...?

Either gross incompetence or something else.

I wish the security would have been just a little less secure. doc03 Yesterday #1

Access to the hotel was restricted to hotel guests, which apparently this suspect was. But to get to the dinner, people had to go through multiple checks, including magnetometers and ticket scanners. There were then other layers of agents. He ran through a magnetometer and got tackled. What more do you think there should have been?

How did a person with a rifle get anywhere near the entrance?

There have been at least two attempts on Trump's life. We're at war. He's never bothered to go to the WHCD before since becoming president. So this year he goes and security is comparable to a routine concert in a small city. Why?

I don't know.

I haven't seen a report that he had a rifle. He reportedly had a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives. He checked into the hotel with them. People check into hotels with wack shit every day.

From inside their smug little bubble the Trump administration causes mayhem, death and despair across the world. There are hundreds of millions of people now who hate Trump. Some of them are mentally unwell. Many of them have access to weapons. At least two have already tried to kill him.

Competent, clear thinking might suggest that now is not a good time to gather the Trump administration and their wives all together in a meeting room in a hotel that has already been the site of a presidential assassination attempt. A busy hotel that is difficult to protect, with guests coming and going and other events going on at the same time. Maybe rethink that, especially this year, especially since this is the first time Trump has ever attended the WHCD in six years of being president. It's not like it's a treasured tradition for him.

But no. Full speed ahead. Prepare the long boring unfunny zingers to get back at all the enemies (as Leavitt said at the beginning of the evening, "there will be shots fired tonight." ) Setting aside the irony of her saying that, look at how often this group uses violent language. Enemies are targeted, shots are fired, civilizations will be wiped from the earth.

They never stop to think that somebody out there might actually wish them harm and they ought to, I don't know, protect themselves from it. They think they're so smart. And then they're so surprised when somebody does something violent to them. And then, without missing a beat, they monetize it.

Probably the best response to this is to yawn and look away. I'm reading a book.
