Last night, powerful people hid. Journalists, lobbyists, and politicians dove under tables, pressed against walls, and ran for exits at the Washington Hilton. Secret Service moved. Protocols activated. And within hours, everyone went home.

Welcome to the reality American children, teachers, and parents live every single day. Except they do not get the protocols. They do not get the security detail. And not all of them get to go home.

They Felt It for Ninety Seconds
Joyce White Vance said what many of us were thinking: she listened to seasoned reporters describe their terror at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and immediately thought of America’s children. So did every parent who has ever kissed a kid goodbye at a school door and spent the day watching their phone.

Last night’s fear was real. Nobody dismisses that. But here is what last night was not: it was not hours. It was not silence so complete you could hear your own heartbeat. It was not crouching in a locked, darkened classroom for three hours while your phone dies and you cannot call your mother. It was not a teacher pressing her body against a door and telling twenty-three children to be very, very quiet.

That is a Tuesday in America.

that are speaking for the children.

6. Maybe we should arm the waitstaff, the cooks, and the kitchen staff so they can protect diners.

Or maybe ask for armed volunteers to patrol the hotels and restaurants.

And we could require bullet-proof plates so diners can hold them up to shield them from incoming fire.

We could have shooter drills during the meals and teach the diners to hide under the table and be very, very quiet.

Most importantly, we could require all diners to say a Prayer of Grace at their tables. Post the Ten Commandments at the door to remind shooters that God doesn't like active shooter situations. None of this happened before we kicked God out of our restaurants.

Bloody hallways and floors... the sounds of gunfire at close range.

I'll NEVER forget the video that was released about Uvalde where it said :

The words “The sound of Children Screaming has been removed,” were an editor’s note attached to a video, published by the Austin American-Statesman of Uvalde of the shooting.

But we have to keep hearing how terrified wolf Blitzer was.

That seems damn near criminal to me. You’re not telling the full story and telling it in full honesty if you silence the very sounds of that suffering.

Dammit! THAT should ABSOLUTELY be the point! The WHOLE GRUESOME POINT!!! We ALL need to LISTEN to those screams. Listen to that agony and terror, America. And then please explain to me why you’re not doing anything to stop it.

I swear, even just writing about it from way across the country, I am hurting like hell.

January 6 and the group of elected officials running and hiding and after it was over those same folks went right on sucking up to their beloved leader. I don't get it. Just a few of those people could brave the consequences and this would be over with.
