Updated on: April 26, 2026 / 5:06 PM EDT / CBS News

Mr. Trump said he "wasn't making it that easy" for the Secret Service to escort him from the Washington Hilton Hotel because he "wanted to see what was going on."
....................

............In a news conference Saturday night, Mr. Trump praised law enforcement, and said the suspect "hadn't come anywhere close to breach the doors of the room."

Asked if he was concerned about the threats to his life, Mr. Trump said, "It's a dangerous profession."

Mr. Trump said he "fought like hell" to resume the event after the shooting, but said law enforcement insisted otherwise. He said he wanted the dinner to be rescheduled within the next 30 days.

Or is it just a courtesy?

Trump is an enemy of the press, and by extension, an enemy of the people. He is outright demagogic against the First Amendment.

to take place in the next 30 days and the Hilton is the only ballroom in the area with enough space for this program, doesn’t that conflict with their argument that the Hilton is not a safe space to host such an event? They say that the events of last night prove the space isn’t a safe venue and validates the need for tRump ‘s ballroom. Who would want to attend the rescheduled event if they can’t assure the attendees that security will be adequate to keep them safe?

They can’t have it both ways. And furthermore, my guess is that the Hilton ballroom is already booked for the next 30 - 90 days with weddings, conventions and conferences, many that were booked months or years in advance. So where does tRump imagine this event will be held?
