The Save America Movement
Apr 26
A quick note from the Save America Movement: We can either be paralyzed by the sheer volume of chaos coming from this administration, or we can build the opposition to stop it. We chose the latter. From deploying Liberty Vans to expose secret ICE mega-prisons, to dropping early attack ads on the enablers in Congress who rubber-stamp the madness, we are providing a useful, additive approach to the resistance, but we cannot do it without your support.
When you are up against an authoritarian movement with a multi-billion-dollar war chest and a compliant media, you cannot just doomscroll your way out of a fascist takeover. You have to step up and take them on everywhere you can.
Thats what we spent the entire week doing. Its what we spend every week doing. In case you missed any of it, here is the exact reality of the fight on the ground right now.
This week, the Save America Movement officially joined forces with Miles Taylor (Defiance.org) and the data journalists at Project Salt Box to launch GTFO ICE.
The Department of Homeland Security has a $40 billion slush fund, and they are quietly buying up warehouses in our backyards to build a national network of secret concentration camps.
They want to do it in the dark.
We just launched the nationwide, rapid-response network designed to stop them. GTFOICE.org is built to mobilize Americans to crowd-cancel these facilities the moment they emerge. We are providing the rapid alerts, the legal guidance, and the media exposure to apply undeniable physical friction and force DHS to abandon their plans.

ICE MUST GO.
Stop concentration camps before they take hold.
They're going to hell, but don't let them end and ruin lives on their way down.

(4,762 posts)My take: the oligarchs' AI is evil, even if it does enable us to easily make cartoons.
By using AI, we enable the surveillance ( oops, " data " ) centers. Which ICE in turn uses to stalk us.

(26,099 posts)I posted earlier about How AI Reverses the Political Logic of the Internet

On the same site, I found
How AI Can Support Democracy Movements
https://www.techpolicy.press/how-ai-can-support-democracy-movements/
This is very long and I need to thoroughly read both of them.
Short answer is that we average folk have basically no influence on AI data center growth with one exception.
We can fight locally to stop these resource devouring monsters from popping up in our backyards.
And I remember posting something, or others posted, on how we can all support local efforts to do so.
Senator Bernie Sanders is very vocal on this issue and you can look up references here on DU and elsewhere.
Bernie Sanders rallies with labor leaders for AI protections and tells oligarchs, Go to hell.

These states don't want data centers in their backyards

Tell Congress: Pass the Bernie Sanders - AOC AI Data Center Moratorium Act

Lots to unpack here.
GO FOR IT.
We DO have influence here, even if we don't have billions to give and take.
I personally see AI computing starting to migrate to the desktop, and there will be no "consumer" money to be had, only from big companies and of course, government spy agencies.
Like ICE concentration camps, we can stop them locally. Read the first article I quoted. It's all about concentration, exactly. Concentrating power and money and influence over us.

(4,762 posts)But for my self, I will not use AI as long as it is owned and controlled by oligarchs. Not even to make political cartoons with punch, or to make the equivalent of cat videos.
A rational society would be using computers to manage the ecology and the economy to assure survival and avoid catastrophe. I see NO indication that AI is doing this. At this point, all AI does is increase the wealth and power of some very sick people. And to kill. As long as this is the case, I will do nothing to legitimize the use of AI.
I've been coding for 40 years and worked on some really big iron. I automated a lot of processes. I used voice interface 30 years ago (when it was not connected to surveillance centers). I'm not against tech. I'm against power-mad psychopaths breaking the world.

(26,099 posts)Spare you my career history, Useful stuff. Optics, electronic engineering, computers, but no heavy coding, mostly scripting.
The crooks and manipulators make malicious use of technology. No basic human decency there.
