1. I've always had the attitude toward the British monarchy of, Not our circus, not our monkeys.

Parliament could abolish the monarchy if it wanted to, but evidently it doesn't. King Charles has no real power and is basically a mascot with a thousand-year pedigree, and every now and then the royals put on a fancy ceremony that everyone seems to enjoy.
