Parliament could abolish the monarchy if it wanted to, but evidently it doesn't. King Charles has no real power and is basically a mascot with a thousand-year pedigree, and every now and then the royals put on a fancy ceremony that everyone seems to enjoy. I have no issues with Charles; he is a dedicated environmental activist who actually acknowledges that climate change is real. https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2026/04/28/king-charles-washington-visit/charles-environmental-message-00896569 He's a damn sight better as both a head of state and a human being than the ignorant douchebag who fancies himself a king that we're stuck with.

and granted him legitimacy by treating with him in an official capacity.

Of course, the British Royals have a history of tolerating a child rapist.
