I had a call a little while ago. The caller I.D. said RNC. I thought if that's someone looking for a donation to the Republicons I am going to tell them they definitely have the wrong number. The guy said my name and I stupidly said yes, he repeated my name, and this time I hung up.
Then I remembered that my sister said there was a scam where they ask you something to get you to say yes. Then they use your recorded yes for scams. The number was a fake one according to Google. I am hoping since he said my name a second time, he didn't get my first yes.
Do I need to report this to anyone? I already have my credit card numbers locked against anyone taking out a loan since my credit card # was exposed during that Doge Social Security mess.
Now my anxiety is kicking into high gear. I can be so absent minded sometimes. Thanks for any input.

(64,497 posts)and spam calls. About twenty years ago I got "slammed" for phone charges (bogus website charged to my phone number). It was pretty easy to get it removed. But their proof was an unintelligible recording, with one clear vocalization of me saying "Yes."

(151,480 posts)This is what I do for all phone calls I answer. Most, I don't answer at all, but simply hang up if they're flagged as potential spam. People I knw are identified as my contacts when the phone rings. I answer those calls. If not, I do the following:
Step by step:
1. I say, "This is [my name]."
2. Then, I say, "What do you want, please?"
Usually, they hang up immediately after I say those things.
If they do not, and begin some spiel, I disconnect, mark the caller as spam, and go on with my day.
Once a week, I review all voice mail. I almost always delete all of the calls, since people I know talk to me after I answer. I check incoming calls daily and return calls from people I know.
Don't talk to people who call on the phone and with whom you have no history. Just hang up.

(11,003 posts)I set my phone not to ring and bother me, except for anyone I have taken the time to set up in my contact list, since 99.99% of all other calls are always spammers. As more calls come in to my phone log those unknown numbers just disappear. I dont have to a thing with them.

My bank had me do that right after I got hacked.
You may have to call any account you have auto payments made on that account and have them use the new one.

Waste of breath, I know but it shuts them up.

If I don't know the number, my first words after Hello are always "Who's calling".
